Kenyan team shines at the ABIC 2016 Finals in Dar Es Salaam.
Uwakili, a startup that offers affordable legal services for SMEs, represented by Angela Wanjohi won the first ever Africa Business Ideas Cup 2016 organized by Japanese firm DMM.Africa in collaboration with Trickster Ltd.
The event saw a tight pitching session from 5 countries as follows;
Kenya – Uwakili & MyRide Kenya
Rwanda – Kipepeo Kids Clothing & VugaPay
Zimbabwe – SkyMode & Agro-Fuels
Zambia – Farmers Basket & NewTech Recycling
Tanzania – Elea Reusable Sanitary Pads & E-Waste Management
Intensive regional competitions took place in each country to get the finalists who battled it out at the finals in Dar Es Salaam. The judges were renown Japanese investors and Business moguls who were quite impressed by the various ideas present ranging from mobile and web apps doing fin-tech, retail, agriculture and recycling.
The winner walked home with $5,000 and a trip to Japan later on in the year. The other teams got various consolation prizes and struck great networks with investors. The other Kenyan team was MyRide Kenya, a start up that is using mobile technology to make public transport safe, comfortable and fun, was represented by Edward Mbogo.
